The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is made up of a team of experts who understand local communities and assess every property in Ontario. Job Description

You are a data engineering leader with a passion for building scalable, reliable, and innovative enterprise data solutions. You bring deep expertise in modern data engineering, cloud platforms, and data architecture, along with the ability to provide technical direction, solve complex challenges, and build strong relationships across technical and business team

You have: 

  • Completion of a university degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise data engineering, software engineering or enterprise data platform development, including experience leading complex technical initiatives and providing technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise data engineering principles including data modelling, cloud data platforms and DataOps practices
  • Demonstrated ability to establish engineering standards, mentor technical teams and influence enterprise engineering practices
  • Experience designing and developing scalable data pipelines, integration frameworks and cloud-native data solutions supporting operational reporting, analytics and AI initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, data architecture, data quality management, metadata, data governance and enterprise integration patterns
  • Experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps/DataOps and agile delivery methodologies, including GitLab CI/CD pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise cloud data engineering technologies and programming languages such as SQL, Python, Java, Groovy, Spring Boot, Spark, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, PostGres, AWS data services or comparable enterprise data platforms, including PostgreSQL, Redshift, AWS SQS, AWS S3, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes and Rancher
  • Experience using enterprise development and collaboration tools such as Git, Bitbucket, Jira and Confluence
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture principles, cloud computing, information security and privacy, and best practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, relationship management, oral and written communication skills

Nice to have: 

  • Knowledge of data engineering practices supporting advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives

What you will do: 

  • Provide technical leadership for enterprise data engineering initiatives and resolve complex engineering challenges
  • Lead the design, development and optimization of scalable data platforms, pipelines, integration frameworks and migration solutions
  • Establish engineering standards, reusable frameworks, automation and DataOps/DevOps practices
  • Design and develop Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) systems that support scalable, reliable and high-performance operational workloads
  • Implement data quality, governance, security, metadata, lineage, monitoring and observability practices
  • Collaborate with technology teams and business stakeholders to define solutions, manage technical risks and deliver enterprise data capabilities
