Job Description
What makes you great for this role?
You are a detail-oriented individual with experience providing policy analysis to support engagement with government officials, government agencies and other stakeholders to advance corporate priorities and strategic initiatives. This role will require you to have an advanced knowledge of the political landscape in Ontario and government decision-making processes, which can be leveraged to conduct research and monitor government activity, including proposed legislation, policies and public consultation

You have:
- Completion of relevant post-secondary education in public policy administration , political science, public relations, economics or related field
- A minimum 5 years’ progressive in-depth knowledge and experience with public policies, legislation, and precedent-setting court and tribunal decisions, preferably in the property assessment and taxation field
- Good knowledge of the legislative framework governing Ontario’s property assessment and taxation system, including the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation Act, the Assessment Act, the Municipal Act, the City of Toronto Act and other related regulations
- Excellent research and analytical skills to identify issues and problems, synthesize complex information and formulate recommendations
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Nice to have:
- Accreditation with Institute of Municipal Assessors and/or Appraisal Institute of Canada
What you will do:
- Engage directly with Ontario Ministry of Finance staff, staff in other Ministries, agencies and stakeholders on policy and legislation issues
- Provide ongoing legislation support to MPAC senior management, head office and field office staff, municipalities, municipal associations, taxpayers and professional associations, private sector and other jurisdictions
- Provide policy support and interpretation to the President, management and field offices, other Ministries, municipalities, municipal associations, taxpayers and professional associations, private sector, and other jurisdictions
- Conduct research and review of established and proposed assessment policies to develop options, determine feasibility, measure impact, and provide recommendations to senior management and government
- Research emerging public policy issues and provide recommendations related to impact on MPAC’s business
- Support the development of government legislation on proposed legislative changes and regulatory provisions necessary to implement property assessment and tax reform, and ongoing government initiatives
- Support the Manager in the development and maintenance of workplans and timelines to ensure organizational alignment to meet the needs of government stakeholders
- Manage assessment legislation and policy-related projects, including planning and researching, assembling project team members, and preparing business case
