Become a Senior Planning Land Use Specialist - Temporary Assignment up to 12 Months with MPAC

You have: 

  • Completion of a post-secondary education in Urban/Regional Planning, Real Estate, Geography or in a related field
  • At least five years of land use planning experience or combination with appraisal/property valuation experience 
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with one or a combination of the following: Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), Canadian Institute of Plans (CIP), Institute of Municipal Assessors (IMA), Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI), International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
  • Strong working knowledge of planning processes and policies, including the Planning Act, the Municipal Act, the Provincial Policy Statement, Provincial Plans, Official Plans, Zoning By-laws, and other relevant planning legislation, policies, plans and guidelines
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, compiling, analyzing and interpreting data, identifying and evaluating alternatives and formulating conclusions and recommendations
  • Experience liaising with the public, municipalities, ministries, and outside agencies
  • Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve technical issues 
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Strong communication skills – written, verbal, and oral presentation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook


What you will do:

  • Draft and develop policies and guidelines that adhere to best practices in the planning field as they apply to the valuation process
  • Research and review pertinent Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation, plans, policies and guidelines and advise staff on relevant changes and provide strategic recommendations that will improve and support the assessment processes
  • Conduct complex planning research and spatial analytics/mapping for specific planning study areas in order to establish the corresponding valuation parameters
  • Lead the design and development of the Branch’s official plan database and develop standardized templates and processes that will formalize requests from the business
  • Assist the valuation team with land use and planning analysis by identifying assessment comparable(s) in order to validate the classification of complex properties
  • Participate in corporate initiatives aimed at enhancing the integration of planning related information and data to support the determination of assessments
  • Support the Manager, Planning Services in the collection and analysis of, policies and guidelines in order to provide technical planning expertise and knowledge to staff
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to Land Use Specialists, Co-op(s) and Summer Student(s) and delegate research projects and initiatives
  • Facilitate and maintain relationships with Provincial, Regional and Municipal Planners and related associations to enhance Municipal awareness
  • Build strong relationships across various levels at MPAC in order to assist the corporation meet its strategic goals and objectives
